• description:
  hist makes histograms and cumulative distributions of one or more data sets, with optional filtering and weighting of the histogrammed variable by the other variable. Optionally does various normalizations of the histogram and does statistical analysis of the data.
• files:
  inputfilelist is a list of one or more data files to be histogrammed. outputfile is a file in which to place the histogram.
• options:

  n_bins

  
  Specifies the number of bins in the histogram.

  lower_limit, upper_limit

  
  Specify the lower and upper limits of the histogram. By default, the lower (upper) limit is the smallest (largest) value in the first data file.

  histogram_variable

  
  Specifies which column of the input data files to histogram. The default value is 0, which indicates histogramming of the abscissae.

  line_graph

  
  Requests that output take the form of a single point at the center of each bin, rather than the default bar-graph style.

  cumulative_distribution

  
  Specifies the name of a file into which the cumulative distribution derived from the histogram will be placed.

  filter

  
  Requests filtering of the histogrammed points by the non-histogrammed variable, and specifies the lower and upper limits for acceptance.

  weight

  
  Requests that the histogram be weighted by the values of the non-histogrammed variable.

  normalize

  
  Requests normalization of the histogram, and specifies either unit sum, unit area, or unit peak.

  statistics

  
  Requests that statistical analyses of the data be included in the output data set labels.

  sides

  
  Requests that extra data points be included at the ends of the histogram to bring the sides down to zero. Many prefer this look, though it can be misleading in that it implies that there are no points outside the histogrammed interval.

  verbose

  
  Requests informational output during processing.
