stats

• synopsis:

  stats inputfilelist [-listform] [-moments] [-window= xl,xh,yl,yh] [-variable={0 | 1 | 2}] [-correlations] [-level= percentile,...] [-half_width= half-percentile,...]

• description:
  stats does statistical analyses of a data set, computing various moments, widths, and cumulative distribution parameters. It also gives the minimum, maximum, and spread.
• files:
  inputfilelist is a list of one or more files from which data will be read. Analyses are done for the combined data set. The results are written to the terminal.
• options:

  variable

  
  Specifies which variable or column to use from the files. The default is 0 (for x). A value of 2 indicates that should be computed and used for each point.

  window

  
  Specifies a rectangular window in x and y, with the result that any points outside the window are discarded; if the window has zero width in either dimension, then no windowing is done in that dimension.

  listform

  
  Requests that output will take the form of a series of lines, each containing a keyword ending with a colon followed whitespace and then the value. This is very useful for getting a specific value in a shell script.

  moments

  
  Requests computation of moments and other quantities for the selected variable, including the mean, RMS, standard-deviation, mean-absolute-deviation, and median.

  correlations

  
  Requests computation of the correlation matrix of the x and y values, and the correlation coefficient.

  level

  
  Requests computation of positions of the specified percentiles on the cumulative distribution of the variable values. A better way to do this may be using rescale inputfile outputfile -y_trans=``i n_pts 1 - /'', assuming one wants the CDF of the x values and that these are in ascending order.

  half_width

  
  Requests computation of the width about the median of the interval containing the specified fraction of the points on each side of the median.
