Edit and execute displays
EDIT Mode
In EDIT mode, QtEDM functions as a display editor. You can:
- Create new displays or open existing ADL files
- Add, select, move, resize, and delete widgets
- Edit widget properties through the Resource Palette
- Copy, cut, and paste widgets
- Group widgets into composites
- Save displays to ADL files
- Toggle grid display and snap-to-grid
The Object Palette provides access to all available widget types. Click on a widget type, then click and drag on the display to create a new widget.
EXECUTE Mode
In EXECUTE mode, QtEDM connects to EPICS and displays live process variable data. Widgets become interactive:
- Monitor widgets display current PV values
- Control widgets allow operators to modify PV values
- Dynamic attributes change widget appearance based on PV values
- Related Display buttons open additional screens
- Shell Command buttons execute system commands
When QtEDM starts without -x, use the Edit/Execute selector in the main window to change modes. A command-line EXECUTE launch locks the selector for that process. Ctrl+X remains the standard Cut shortcut in EDIT mode; it is not a mode switch.
